Hatred in America

Talking Points Memo posted a video of Bill Moyers explaining Hillary’s LBJ quote from a while back. It’s worth watching if you haven’t seen it, although it seems the flap has mostly died down now. At the 1:33 mark there’s a photo from the fifties of some teenagers holding a sign that I’m not [...]

Bobby Fischer, dead at 64

Bobby Fischer died today. What an interesting iconoclast.
A related side note: For the past week, Choire Sicha (pronunciation mp3), formerly of Gawker, has been guest-blogging for kottke.org all this week. Jason did this before, and both times I’ve found it interesting how the particular interests of the guest blogger take the blog [...]

The OS looks [...]

List of Places Slept, 2007

At the end of every year I publish a list of all the places I spent at least one night in during that year. Here’s the list for 2007. The ones marked with asterisks are places where I spent multiple, non-consecutive nights. Here’s the 2006 list and the 2005 list.
*Brooklyn, NY
*Logan, UT (Jan, [...]

Secret Santa w/ Ruby

For our office secret santa pool, I wrote a quick little ruby script to generate the pairings and email each of the people in our office with their result.
Here’s the salient code:

pool = ["person1@email.address.com",
"person2@email.address.com",
"person3@email.address.com"]

avail = pool.dup
pairs = []

pool.each do [...]

Gomboc Self-Righting Object: Created!

The Gomboc, a special object that has only a single point of balance, and thus is self-righting, has been created. Read more about it in NYT or visit the (hungarian) website for a short visual demo. I can’t wait to see one of these things in real life.
