the greenpoint police stole my bike tire

by cory on January 10th, 2009

In late November, about 3 in the morning one Saturday night, someone tried to steal the back tire off my bike, which was locked up outside my apartment. A good samaritan hipster couple who were walking on the street saw what was going down and the girl’s boyfriend physically held the thief down long enough for her to call the police and wait for them to arrive. When the fuzz arrived they arrested the thief and took my tire into custody as evidence.

Since that time I have been to the police station four separate times, and every time I’ve had to explain my story to the same J.K. Simmons-looking officer who denies any knowledge of my tire and tells me to come back another time.

It’s been a month and a half and I’ve finally given up. I wasn’t expecting to have a chance to ride again until March anyway, but we’ve been having 40-degree days lately so I’m going to take matters into my own hands and replace the tire at B’s Bikes this weekend.

  • Very hilarious incident. Now its better that you take new tire.
  • Oh its so bad. But this kind of thing usually happens in theft cases. Police keepp the stolen thing with him & it takes long & long time to get it back. So better you forget it & get a new tire.
  • LOL!!!! That was quite an experience, you should have took a photo of your bike for a remembrance
  • Shady! Power hungry police officers.

I would like to put in a plug for a bank Joy and I had a good experience with recently: TD Bank. They have exemplary customer service, and in a situation where another local bank, Astoria Bank, www.chase.com screwed us over, TD Bank had a no-minimum balance, no fee option for an account for a minor. They seem to have avoided much of the predatory lending practices, so have not had to beg taxpayers for a bailout. Additionally, they have been one of the world's most sustainable companies

Talk directly to Deputy Inspector Fuller. Or, talk to the Comsumer Affairs officer. You can find them at the Police meetings 7:30 pm the 3rd Monday of the month. Downstairs of the bank on Calyer St. across from Otom Gym. Usually when you express your problem in public at the meetings you get action.
  • haha thats hilarious! sorry ;d
  • Sorry, but that's really kind of funny. You went from having a thief steal your tire to the police doing so!

Count yourself lucky though, someone stole my car on Dec 31st 2008... Don't criminals have holidays too?!
