One Laptop Per Child XO

by cory on January 2nd, 2008

My dad bought an XO, the One Laptop Per Child $100 laptop and I had a chance to play around with it today. It’s really cute. Looks very much like a Fisher Price toy, with the big green plastic charger and the green antenna ears on either side of the screen.

The OS looks like some modified version of Linux. The interface is highly icon-driven, with a lot of playful apps for learning kids, like a paint program, a GarageBand-like app called TimTamjam, and also a Logo-style programming language and a lite Python IDE, which I thought was pretty cool. But where’s Ruby?
