Improved Google Maps
Did anyone else notice that Google Maps got a lot better recently? I’ve noticed that they added these improvements:
- Shadow outlines of buildings (when in “map” mode)
- Subway locations!
- Double-clicking a point zooms in and centers on the point (used to just center)
I find Google’s Maps incredibly fun. Fun to look at, fun to drag (even now, I usually feel compelled to adjust any google map I’m looking at, just because I can), fun to use overall. They are also really fun to play with when programming. Doing a mini-project that involves putting pins in the map, making custom pins, or doing any interesting interaction design, is always something I look forward to. I’m not quite sure why that is; I think it has to do with me feeling like the GMaps framework is mature and will work well, and also the feeling that there’s a little bit of magic going on. Anyway, I really like it, clearly.
