The Utah Jazz Giant Killers
One of the nicest things about being home for Thanksgiving, aside from seeing my family, was getting to watch all the Jazz games. It’s tough following a small-market NBA team from afar. I still haven’t found a bar in Williamsburg that has NBA League Pass and can show the games.
The big news is that the Jazz beat the mighty Spurs last night! Patrick and I couldn’t find a bar to watch the game so we were watching 30-second updates online at yahoo sports. Unfortunately, with about 40 seconds to go my internet connection goes out (perfect timing), but my dad called to give us a live update, and the Jazz were able to pull it off. Kind of reminds me of the shining moments of last year’s abysmal season when the Jazz knocked off the Pistons, handing them two of only six losses they had during the entire first half of the season.
This year the difference is that beating the Spurs felt almost normal. The Jazz have shown real brilliance so far this season and, despite two horrible showings in a row against Golden State and the Magic leading up to the Spurs game, that they pulled off the win didn’t seem at all out of the ordinary.
I’m relishing the fact that my team is number 1. That’s something that you don’t get to see very often. My team hasn’t been number one for any appreciable period of time since I was a junior in high school. Some people never get to see their team in the first place. I’m just trying to enjoy the ride.
